With oversupply and increased competition dragging down the prices for handset keypad-use blue LEDs by an average of 50 percent annually over the past five years, Taiwan LED makers are eying new market segments, such as LEDs for 15- and 17" monitor-panel backlighting in order to boost their margins, according to LED maker Unity Opto Technology.
