I keep saying that premium OLED gaming monitors are very close in performance, and I maintain that statement after spending time with the ViewSonic XG272-2K. This tech is by far the best for gaming I’ve seen in my many years of reviewing computer monitors. It’s smoother than the best overdrive and needs no trickery to achieve perfect motion resolution. It has a broader contrast than any variation of LCD panel in existence. It achieves greater color saturation, with nearly all examples meeting or exceeding 100% coverage of DCI-P3.
The XG272-2K is a very good example. It doesn’t quite get full marks for two reasons. I observed light gamma in SDR mode that made the image just a bit flat when compared to another OLED. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still better than a premium Mini LED display. I also noted a blue tint to HDR content that robbed it of its full potential. These are relatively minor issues that are more obvious when compared to other OLEDs. The XG272-2K still delivers better image quality than an LCD monitor.
For gaming, I have no complaints. Video processing is every bit as good as the competition with perfect motion resolution, flawless Adaptive-Sync and the added bonus of black frame insertion. This option is perfect for users with less powerful (less expensive) video cards that can’t drive a QHD monitor past 150fps. That gives the XG272-2K extra flexibility because it will be ready when you upgrade to something faster. In all my gameplay sessions, I was completely addicted to its smooth precision.
The ViewSonic XG272-2K is price-competitive with other 27-inch QHD 240 Hz OLED monitors. It has a few minor flaws but will still satisfy even the pickiest gamers. If you have around $900 to spend on an OLED, definitely check it out.
