When you move to 24 bits, you're making full use of the card's capabilities, and so performance jumps. The cards clearly scored the best results we've ever measured on a consumer-oriented sound card, where noise is concerned, at any rate. The Audigy 4 is a success!
- Frequency response (20 Hz - 20 kHz): +0.09, -0.91 dB
- Weighted signal-to-noise ratio: 108.1 dB(A)
- Distortion: 0.0019 %
- Stereo separation: 106 dB
Frequency response: A slight lack of linearity (of low amplitude) remained, but the result was very satisfactory.
Noise level: A record reading, in line with many professional sound cards
Article continues belowDynamic range: The potential implied by the signal-to-noise ratio was realized!
Distortion: It came as no surprise that distortion is still very low and will be absolutely no problem.
Intermodulation: A very good result. No problems foreseeable.
Stereo separation: Stereo crosstalk was practically nil. You can't ask for much better.
