A study conducted by the Hayes Connection and The Greaves Group among 2500 US school districts concludes that more than half of all student-computing devices will be mobile by the year 2011. Online learning will gain more and more acceptance and at a compound annual rate of 26% over the next five years, the researchers estimate. The surveyed districts also indicated a movement towards 1:1 computing, whereby each student and teacher has one Internet-connected wireless computing device for use both in the classroom and at home.
