Microsoft has released a first public version of a search engine that allows Internet users to search through "tens of thousands of out-of-copyright books." The content on Live Search Books was made available through a massive scanning effort and includes books from the University of California, the University of Toronto, and the British Library.
In a separate announcement, Microsoft also announced an update of the the beta of Live Search Academic, which indexes "millions of new articles - primarily bio-medical content."
