Intel has announced the product discontinuance of two of its SSDs, the 311 Series and 510 Series.

With release of the Intel 520 series and the impending release of the Intel 313 series, Intel has announced the product discontinuance of two of its SSDs. The SSD 311 Series (34nm) is being replaced by the next generation Intel SSD 313 Series (25nm). The SSD 510 Series (34nm) is replaced by the Intel SSD 520 Series (25nm).

SSDs are fairly reliable, in terms of wear level. By the time they lose excessive amount of sectors, many HDDs would've head-crashed.
Now for firmwares, that depend on the vendors. -

Lol, Intel just discontinued their product (it means that there is no more updates/improvements for this product), you have nothing to worry about. The warranty isn't removed... -
