Santa Clara (CA) - Apple’s announcement of its updated iMac line has fueled rumors that the company will be the first to use Intel’s upcoming Montevina chip. However, Intel denies that is happening. An Intel spokesperson told news website, BetaNews, that the 3.06 GHz processor in the new iMacs is a 45 nm Core 2 Duo (Penryn) and not the upcoming X9100 chip.
The standard processor on the new iMacs is a 2.83 MHz Core 2 Duo, but buyers can upgrade to the 3.06 GHz chip for an additional charge.
