BBC iPlayer Radio App Adds Podcast Downloads

The BBC has announced that its iPlayer Radio app now supports podcast downloads. The broadcaster announced the news today, stating that this new feature is available across iOS, Android and Kindle devices. Users are able to listen to podcasts either offline or online and can control when podcasts are downloaded (so on WiFi-only via mobile networks, too).

"With over 3 million downloads and counting, the BBC iPlayer Radio app (now available on iOS, Android and Amazon devices) is evolving," BBC executive producer James Simcock wrote today. "Since we first launched the app, we've been listening closely to audience feedback with a view to make continuous improvements to the apps. I'm proud to say that we've now implemented the single most requested new feature – podcast downloads."

Users are able to 'queue' as many downloads as they like, and downloaded content can be managed via a new 'My Downloads' section in the app. Android and Kindle users will find this section in the main menu, while iOS users will have to look under the 'More' menu. Android users have the added benefit of being able to monitor download activity in the notifications bar; there's also a quick play option, too.
