This year, 12" silicon-wafer shipments are expected to account for 20 percent of global silicon-wafer shipments, up from 12% in 2004, according to Gartner Dataquest. The market-research firm has also forecast that by 2009, the 12" segment will overtake the 8" segment to become the mainstream.
